Shell Shuffle
This game was created by me and 4 other winners of the IG50 2024 award for the Mini Jam 159: Ocean. Incorporating the limitation 'as small as possible', we decided to create a twist on traditional merge game mechanics by creating shells of different sizes across the grid, and making the required limitation quite literally the aim of the game! Players must manage their board and create the smallest possible sets of shells from larger shells, as well as merge their different variations.
I composed a main menu track, three level tracks and all the SFX for the game. The whole soundtrack is derived from the level 1 track ‘Ocean Waves’, with it gentle rising and falling ostinato in the lower piano register and the playful melody in the upper register. The level 2 track ‘Saying Farewell’ introduces solo strings in a duet-like entanglement around the familiar piano parts. The final level track ‘Mama’s Lullaby’ brings home the narrative of the game with soft vocals to symbolise a mothers love for her children.
